It has become obvious that we live in an age of rapidly increasing moral decline which jeopardizes the future of our culture, society, and nation. A stable, peaceful, and productive society requires a righteous moral foundation. Man can’t exist without a moral code to restrain his sinful lusts and guide him to righteous living. It seems we are living out Judges 21:25 which says, “Every man did what was right in his own eyes.” I’ll go farther and say that every man is determining what is right in his own eyes.

In the wake of this moral decline and the apparent crumbling of our foundations, what shall we do? First, it is imperative that we do as 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says, that is to pray for civil authorities to preserve the greenhouse which the Christian faith is planted in may grow more easily. You can also do your part in electing civil authorities that will do this.
Second, we must appeal to a code of morality outside of ourselves that we can all look to for restraint of evil doers and guidance in righteousness because if our moral degeneracy continues to be left unchecked, it will lead to social collapse. We may be rather far down that road already.
So, do we look to common sense and human reason to instruct us to righteous living? Do we look to humanistic and socialistic ethics to guide us? What about marxism, critical race theory, or liberation theology? Are these solid foundations to build a society on? These seem to be rather faulty since these religions are man-made and that the heart of man, as Jeremiah says, is deceitfully wicked. How can we have certainty as to what righteous living is in the midst of these uncertain times? Is certainty a pipe dream that we can only imagine?
Well, as James Taylor says, you’ve got a friend. And that friend is God’s revealed law found in both the Old and New Testaments in Scripture. Here is where we find the solution to man’s moral confusion.
About His law, God says that “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Thy law is truth (Psalm 119:142).” “The sum of Thy word is truth, and every one of Thy Righteous ordinances is everlasting (Psalm 119:160).”

Here is the answer. We have a friend. Let us look to God’s law. Let us press our churches, families, and states to look for the wisdom to rule only found in the Law of God.
