The Gospel is Good News to The Oppressed because Christ is on their side.

“Cursed be he who perverts the justice due to the stranger, the widow, and the fatherless” Deut 27:19

With all our power we must maintain every man’s right. But there are those who are especially vulnerable to injustice: namely the widow, the orphan, and the immigrant or outsider. In our nation, African Americans have been contemptuously viewed as outsiders and are as a result especially vulnerable to exploitation and injustice. We must be aware of this history if we are to understand our current moment biblically and historically.

Few there are who fight for what is due to the oppressed because they offer very little in return. But, God takes them under his wing.
Even if they are not given justice by the world, the Lord fights their battles. Even if oppressors are esteemed by the world, they make war with the Lord and can expect his vengeance.
If we rob the vulnerable of what is duly theirs whether that be a good name, wealth, opportunity, or equal justice before the law, we have committed oppression and are hindering their due rights before God.
If we’ve done this or are actively doing it, this must be confessed, restitution made, and justice upheld. It is in this righting of a wrong that we continue walking in God’s favor by grace through faith.

If our nation, would learn God’s law again– learn his justice– and obey his ways– we could avoid the curse of God and receive the attendant blessings. We could finally begin to see what is meant by, The Gospel is good news to the oppressed. (Luke 4;18) “Now if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God and are careful to follow all His commandments I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2And all these blessings will come upon you and overtake you, if you will obey the voice of the LORD your God…” Deut. 28:1-2
